Public warned against typhoon Rolly

State-run weather bureau PAGASA warned the public to brace for the approaching tropical storm that is seen to bring a stronger impact than typhoon Quinta, according to a report by CNN Philippines.

Tropical Storm Goni, which will be named "Rolly" when it enters the country, was spotted 1,705 kilometers east of central Luzon. It has maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

PAGASA weather forecaster Shelly Ignacio said the storm will likely follow the track of Typhoon Quinta, which killed at least nine people and left at least P429.7 million damage to agriculture and infrastructure. Rolly may even intensify into a typhoon prior to its landfall.

"Ang inaasahan pong lugar o direksyon ay halos kaparehas ni Typhoon Quinta, pero dito po yan magla-landfall sa Bicol area o eastern Visayas," Ignacio told CNN Philippines' New Day on Thursday.

She added: "Asahan po natin na maaari itong mag-intensify bago ito mag-landfall sa kategoryang typhoon."

Rolly is expected to make landfall over the said areas by Sunday, November 1.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area was also spotted outside the country, 2,560 km east of Mindanao. Ignacio said the weather system is not yet directly affecting the country but they are monitoring it for further developments.

Caraga and Davao region will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstoms due to an intertropical convergence zone. Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Batanes, and Cagayan including Babuyan Islands will have scattered rains due to the northeasterly surface windflow.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms.
