'Quinta'-affected families reach 176,000

The number of families affected by Typhoon Quinta reached 176,532 in six regions, according to a report by Philippine News Agency.

In an update on Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that “Quinta” has affected 775,513 individuals residing in 2,469 barangays in the regions of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Western and Eastern Visayas.

It said about 2,206 families or 8,649 persons have sought shelter in 150 evacuation centers while 1,773 families or 7,670 individuals were being aided outside evacuation centers.

“Quinta” also caused 66 incidents of flooding, 22 landslides, six maritime mishaps, and one storm surge in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western and Eastern Visayas, the Cordillera region, and the National Capital Region.

At the height of the typhoon, about 22 persons were killed, 39 were injured, and four were reported missing in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Western and Central Visayas.

The NDRRMC also reported that 107 road sections and 20 bridges have been affected by flooding, road slips, landslides, soil erosion in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and the Cordillera region.

A total of 33 road sections and five bridges in some regions remain unpassable due to road slips, landslides, and soil erosion.

“Quinta” damaged 49,081 houses and destroyed 3,608 others. Damage to infrastructure was estimated at PHP290 million.
