Filipino dragon boat team wants to resume training

The Philippine Dragon Boat Alliance may send a letter to the Inter-Agency Task Force for Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) requesting to allow the resumption of their training sessions, Malacañang said in a report by Philippine News Agency.

In a Palace press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque advised the dragon boat team to put their request in writing so it could be discussed among members of the IATF.

“I’m one of the supporters of the Philippine Dragon Boat Team. So ang advice ko po sa kanila, sumulat sila formally sa IATF at aaktuhan naman ito (So my advice to them is to formally write to the IATF and this will be acted upon),” he said.

Last month, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) secured a provisional approval from the IATF to hold a “PBA Bubble” in Clark, Pampanga.

The concept of the PBA bubble is patterned after the National Basketball Association (NBA) model, wherein all players from every team including staff, officials, and other people involved will have no physical contact with other people outside of it, including their families.

Meanwhile, Roque said there is no need to investigate an alleged breach of protocol in the PBA bubble after a player and referee became suspected coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

“The bubble is still intact, it just so happened ‘no pero manageable naman po ang situation (but the situation is manageable) because of the existing bubble,” he said.

Reports showed the player initially suspected of being Covid-19 positive, produced a negative antigen test. However, the PBA will wait for the results of the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR test).

The referee subsequently tested negative on the confirmatory RT-PCR tests but will serve out the remainder of a 10-day quarantine.

Currently, the PBA is taking additional steps to guarantee the safety of everyone involved in trying to finish the 2020 season.
