PNSD building named important cultural property
In a momentous event held on May 19, 2023, the main building of the Philippine National School for the Deaf (PNSD) and Blind (PNSB) was officially recognized as an Important Cultural Property (ICP) by the National Museum of the Philippines during the unveiling ceremony.
The declaration of the building as an ICP highlights its significance as a valuable cultural heritage of the country. With its rich history dating back to 1907, the building has stood as a testament to the passage of time and the enduring legacy of the PNSD and PNSB. The architectural design and overall structure of the building continue to captivate even the most discerning eyes of artists and enthusiasts.
During the ceremony, Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, the Mother of Pasay City, expressed her gratitude for the preservation and recognition of this treasured gem. She acknowledged the building's architectural marvel and vowed to protect and care for it as a symbol of Pasay's heritage.
Joining Mayor Emi were Engr. Albert Paredes, Chief of Staff of the Congressman's Office; Ms. Nishimura Tokiko, Second Secretary of the Economic Section, Embassy of Japan; Mr. Jeremy Barns, Director General of the National Museum Philippines; and Mr. Jorell Legaspi, Deputy Director-General for Museums at the National Museum Philippines. Their presence emphasized the significance of the occasion and the collaborative efforts in preserving cultural treasures.
The recognition of the main building of PNSD and PNSB as an ICP coincides with the celebration of National Cultural Heritage Month in May. It serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting our cultural heritage, allowing future generations to appreciate and learn from the rich history embedded within these structures.
As Pasay City continues to value and celebrate its cultural heritage, the declaration of the PNSD and PNSB building as an Important Cultural Property marks a significant milestone in preserving the city's legacy. This recognition further reinforces Pasay's commitment to nurturing and safeguarding its cultural treasures, ensuring their longevity and passing them on to future generations.
