Fire hits Star City, DZRH and Love Radio in CCP complex
A fire damaged the Star City amusement park as well as the facilities of radio stations DZRH and Love Radio in the CCP Complex, Pasay City, according to a report by ABS-CBN.
The fire erupted at 12:22 a.m in the stockroom of stuffed toys and an assortment of prizes, according to Pasay City fire marshal Paul Pili.
The blaze quickly spread to other parts of the building and huge plumes of smoke were seen billowing into the sky.
Two hours later, the incident was raised to Task Force Bravo, which meant some 19 fire trucks were deployed to the area, Pili added. The blaze was brought under control at 4:30 a.m.
The roof of the Snow World attraction collapsed while Star Theater was also destroyed.
The office of radio and television network Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC), which owns DZRH and Love Radio, was also gutted by the blaze.
Star City sits at the Bay City, which is surrounded by hotels, offices and residential buildings.
Some employees told ABS-CBN News they were worried about losing their jobs because of the incident.
Sen. Richard Gordon, chairman and CEO of the Philippine Red Cross, said they have dispatched 2 fire trucks and 2 ambulances in the area.
Star City spokesperson Rudolph Jularbal said the amusement park might only reopen in October 2020.
Broadcasting operations for radio stations in the area, such as DZRH, Love Radio, Yes The Best and Easy Rock, will continue, Jularbal added.
He said they are considering giving financial support to affected employees.
The MBC, in a statement, said company officials are closely coordinating with authorities to determine the cause of the fire.
"Star City, which was hardest hit by the fire, will be closed through the Christmas season," it added.
Authorities are looking into suspected arson as they said the blaze quickly spread throughout the amusement park.
According to Pasay City Fire Marshal Paul Pili, different areas of Star City seemed to have caught on fire at the same time.
