One Hospital Command Center expands workforce

The One Hospital Command Center (OHCC) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City has increased its workforce and is ready to address a future surge in Covid-19 cases, Dr. Marylaine Padlan said in a report by Philippine News Agency.

At the Laging Handa press briefing, Padlan said the OHCC receives an average of 300 to 400 requests, compared to 400 to 500 last week.

"But it doesn’t mean na it is something to be happy about kasi marami pa rin po iyong calls na (because) 300 to 400 (calls are still a lot)," she said.

Despite the slight decrease, Padlan said calls regarding critical cases and the usual problem of full-capacity hospitals still come in.

"Kumpara noong huling linggo ng Agosto, bumaba po iyong number ng call pero hindi pa rin po siya parang significant iyong pagbaba po ‘no. Marami pa rin po kasing nari-receive na call (Compared to last week of August, the number of calls has decreased but the reduction is not like significant. We are still receiving calls)," she said.

Still, she said it’s good news that they could still find hospitals for referrals.

"Every hour naman po ay nagbabago iyong availability ng mga bed po natin. May napupuno, then may nababakante po (The availability of Covid-19 beds also changes every hour. Some suddenly become vacant)," she added.

Department of Health Undersecretary and treatment czar Dr. Leopoldo Vega earlier said the proper referral process through the government's One Hospital Command system has contributed to the increase in recovery rate and decreased mortality among Covid-19 patients.

The system prevents overcrowding in hospitals and possible exposure of non-Covid patients to the dreaded virus.
