The Philippine Veterans Affairs honored its Educational Benefit scholars during the 2019 EB Recognition Day held at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City last week of July.

During the event, 31 graduates were recognized and 20 new student wards were awarded with scholarship grants. Also awarded were 24 board passers, nine (9) distinguished scholars, and six (6) PVAO scholars turned employees of the Agency.

Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) President PDDG Ricardo F. De Leon (RET) graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

PDDG De Leon, himself a veteran and son of a Korean War hero, lauded the ‘Iskolar ng mga Bayani’ in their endeavors as they were conferred with their certificates and plaques of recognition.

He urged the scholars to respond to the needs of their countrymen by imbibing the values of their forefathers. He called out to the youth to recognize the sacrifices of the veterans and be modern day heroes.

The event was also attended by distinguished alumni Delfin J. Wenceslao Jr., Director and Chairman of the Boards of D.M Wenceslao & Associates who inspired the awarded by saying “everyone starts small but that through hard work and determination, success ultimately follows”.

Dr. Isagani Rodriguez of the University of the East-Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Clinic reminded the scholars not to forget the veterans to whom they owe the educational benefit they received.

“Always remember that you are stepping on hallowed grounds. They were consecrated by the blood, the sweat and the tears of our forbearers who did not think twice in giving up their lives just so we can attain the freedom, the happiness, the peace, that we are enjoying now,” Rodriguez said.

On the part of the scholars, Engr. John Paolo M. Besas, who recently passed the 2019 Civil Engineering Licensure Examination, thanked the PVAO for the help and support extended to all scholars.

The PVAOs Educational Benefit is one of the earliest benefits granted by the State to the veterans, as mandated by Republic Act No. 65, and as amended by RA 7696. It is granted to World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans or to one (1) of their direct descendant
